Christmas Gift Series: Preschool Age Girl Ideas

It seems that as a child gets older, it is more and more fun to shop for them for Christmas and Birthdays. Or maybe I'm just plain becoming more and more of a shopaholic! Dangerous situation, either way! :)

Bea, a little deer...

What fun Christmas is for young children! It is still so magical to them. As a small child, I remember a feeling of all being well with everything and everyone at Christmas time...
It is still a beautiful time to me, but the stress can put a lil damper on it. And I am no longer able to lose myself to my imagination as I did so often as a child. :) It sure is neat to see it all through the eyes of my children though! :)

Gift Idea Series: Baby

Shopping for a small child for Christmas sometimes gets me wondering... Since the child is too young to really understand what is going on, do I buy gifts that make life more practical for mom, or do I buy gifts that I think the baby will enjoy?!

Maybe a lil of both!

Baby Swaddling Blanket DIY Tutorial

The perfect swaddling baby blanket is soft, thin, breathable, big, and has just the right amount of stretch. It is nice to have lots of them, especially for a baby who spits up or has diaper blowouts often!
It is super easy to make them yourself, and far cheaper than buying them!

Materials:
1.25 yards Cotton Gauze Fabric (I got mine from Joann's)
Sewing Machine and Coordinating Thread
Fabric Paint
Pencil w/ New Eraser or Birthday Candle
To make a dot pattern, simply lay your fabric out (I laid mine on a layer of paper to protect my table), dip your eraser or candle straight down into the paint, and then stamp it down onto the fabric. Repeat until desired amount of dots are complete!
Once the paint is dry, press the edges of the blanket down about 1/4" with your iron. Fold them over again, and press again. Using a straight stitch, sew along the edge of the fold to keep it in place.
That's it! :)

Have fun!

Ruffle Skirt Refashion

Here is a quick lil project I did this morning...
I got this skirt at the thrift store for $.20! It fit me kinda funny- too long and too wide. So I just cut the top off to make it the right length, and added exposed elastic around the waist.
I love elastic waist skirts because they fit no matter what kind of day I am having; skinny days, fat days, pregnant days, post baby days... I can always pull on an elastic waist skirt! :)

Have a good week! :)

Tee Shirt To Pencil Skirt Tutorial

Here is a super simple and quick project for you to try!
I like to make these skirts to wear as a layer underneath long shirts that are not quite long enough! All you need is a plus size tee shirt (Mine was $1 at the thrift store), fabric scissors, pins, and a sewing machine.
1. Measure around your hips, and measure from your hip down to the length you want the skirt. Size of the rectangle = half your hip measurement x your desired length. Using the existing hem on the shirt, cut two rectangles from the shirt.
2. Using the remaining shirt, cut another two rectangles for the waist band. Cut these ones 6 inches tall and half your hip measurement wide.
3. Pin the large pieces together, and sew along both longer sides. Fold the waist pieces in half the long way, pin them together with folded sides together, and sew them together along the short ends.
4. Turn your skirt right side out. Pull the Waist piece around the top of the skirt and pin the waist piece to the skirt, right sides facing- folded part of waist band towards bottom of skirt. Sew along the pins being careful not to sew the skirt right shut!

That's it! :) Don't you love simple, fast, cheap projects?!
I sure do!
Have a good wknd!
